The Webby Awards are the leading creative honors for digital
media. In its third year, the awards program, managed by the
International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), brings
together a global online community to recognize the Web's best
and brightest. Online voting by IADAS judges (industry luminaries,
visionaries, and evangelists), and the online community at large,
culminate in offline awards captured in a webcast on March 18,
1999.

In late 1998, vivid
studios was selected as the 'developer of choice' to design The
Webby Awards and IADAS websites. vivid was also responsible
for designing the online voting and nominating user experience,
which was approved by Webby Awards auditor PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
vivid also participated in the development and broadcast
of the award night webcast.
One goal for the IADAS website
was to present the Webby Awards as the highest-quality and most
comprehensive program online, and communicate the history of
the program and IADAS' reputation. The Webby Awards site would
need to serve as a resource and bookmark for the best websites,
inspire people to create better websites, reach people with the
Webbies brand, and serve as the model for subsequent Webby Awards
programs. Additionally, the site would act as an archive for
past programs and serve as a vehicle to promote the International
Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and its endeavors.
