1996 San Francisco Fringe Festival

  September 5-15

  Taste some of the brightest and weirdest theater from around
  the world. Fringe features plays, monologues, movement troupes,
  kids theater, and (shudder) performance art -- 232 performances
  in all, at five theaters downtown. Tix are cheap ($5 - $7) and
  creativity is abundant. Pick up a schedule in cafes and bookstores

AIDS Memorial Quilt in Washington, DC

  The Mall, Washington, DC

  We know it's not local, but it is important (and some of us will
  be there). If you've never seen the Quilt in its entirety, this
  will be an excellent opportunity. The NAMES Project is still
  looking for volunteers to help out that weekend.
