Curtis Olson Director, Technology Services Curtis has been successfully designing and implementing systems for over 15 years. Over this time, he has worked at a wide range of companies from large, multi-nationals to fledgling, Internet start-ups. Before finding a home at vivid studios, he ran his own consulting firm, Data Tier Technology, where he specialized in database architecture, performance tuning and implementation. Curtis grew up in North Dakota. He knew at an early age that he found his calling when he saw his first teletype terminal in eighth grade then later was dazzled by the Apple IIe. Color, sound, a 128k disk drive, how could he resist. Curtis emigrated from North Dakota to go to college in Arizona. After graduation, he heard the siren song of Silicon Valley. Curtis is proud of his Mid-Western origins but has no yearning to live in snow country again. When he went back to ND for his brother's wedding, he was able to enjoy a -80¡F blizzard. Curtis brings big system discipline to a technology world where the rules are always changing. A self-described "propeller-head," Curtis tempers his love for technology with a pragmatic attitude that only exists to solve problems. Of course, he still tingles with excitement over the latest electronics. Despite the management title, Curtis is delighted that he regularly gets to flex his engineering muscles. Most recently, Curtis was the lead engineer for vivid on the American Century 1:1 project. For American Century, vivid developed a flexible, component based website application. The site was one of the first, enterprise class deployments of IBM Websphere and Java Server Pages. In addition to Curtis' hands on work, he has developed and taught technology-related courses in the UC system and in various professional settings.
