Debbie Lefkowitz
Director, Production

Debbie was born and raised in Palo Alto, California. Her mother is a programmer and father was a economist/statistician, thus she "can't add or program worth a damn".

She attended Boston University and got degrees in Political Science and History, which proved to be so useful that she had to go to grad school immediately. She earned a Master's in City and Regional Planning from UC Berkeley. Within the next few years she worked for an architecture/redevelopment company, discovered computers, traveled through the Middle East and Africa, broke her leg in India, and earned another graduate degree (an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management in Holland). It was there that she learned such useful phrases as "Ik studiert uit de Universiteit" ("I study at the University") and "Mak ik frites met pinda saus en mayonaise?" ("May I have fries with peanut sauce and mayonnaise?")

Debbie was introduced to interactive media while in B-school; her interest was sparked by the inaugural issue of Wired magazine, and soon she began working on the first of many multimedia projects. She decided that living illegally in a wet, cold country with bad food was no fun, and so headed home to warm, sunny San Francisco, the center of the New Media Universe and of great food.

Here she spent too many months at a "not for profit" start-up, then moved to Magnum Design to produce a World Atlas CD-ROM. Eleven months and one CD-ROM later she was producing projects at Barbary Coast, and then at Luminare, a multimedia training company.

When she's not here (which is almost never) she putters in her garden, reads voraciously, hangs out with friends, and practices her aunting skills on her nephew. Last summer she took a rollerblading class in which she finally, after two years of blading, learned to stop.

Debbie is also on the faculty of San Franciso State University's Multimedia Studies Program, where she teaches Production Management for Multimedia.
