Martin Gloeckle
Senior Engineer

Martin grew up in the dark woods of the Black Forest in the south west of Germany. After watching a James Dean movie (or was it Marlon Brando?), he decided to rebel against the family tradition. So instead of building cuckoo clocks in his small hometown, he went to study Computer Science in the big city.

During his studies, he specialized in Artificial Intelligence and worked for companies like Siemens AG. His Master Thesis in 1994 involved porting the virtual graphics machine of a dynamic data visualization system from X-Windows to a then late Beta of the first version of Windows NT, as well as research on the ISO 9001 standard.
Martin then worked for two years as head of production at one of Germany's leading multimedia agencies, building high-end CD-ROM's for clients like Hoechst AG and Deutsche Bank.

After watching a Clint Eastwood movie one night (or was it with Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery?), Martin decided that San Francisco would be a nice place to live in. He arrived in the city in August 1996.

Martin started working for Red Dot Interactive and later Think New Ideas, serving as senior engineer and technical producer. Martin worked with a wide variety of clients, including Hewlett Packard, Netscape, Oracle and Gore & Associates, being actively involved in all phases of a project from initial proposal writing and budgeting over analysis and design to implementation and deployment of dynamic websites. On all projects, he worked closely with the client, very often serving as a contact between technical and non-technical people.

In 1999, Martin did get a job offer from vivid studios that he couldn't refuse (involving a decapitated monitor at the foot of his bed). He joined vivid shortly afterwards. He now serves as a Senior Engineer, specializing in server side Java development, including Application Servers, Servlets and EJB. He also is a strong believer in knowledge sharing and a structured and analytical approach to development.

When not teaching people how to pronounce his last name, Martin enjoys photography, listening to 60's jazz, and the occasional Schnitzel to remind him of his roots. And he's trying hard not to watch too many movies.

Meet the rest of us.
