Gordon Friedman
Fulfillment Manager

Gordon was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a small rust-belt city known for its ability to recover from devastating floods. After finishing High School, Gordon moved to Washington DC to attend George Washington University where he earned a BA and MBA in Finance. Eager to see as many Grateful Dead concerts as possible, he then moved to San Francisco where he began working as an institutional investment consultant for Callan Associates, a consulting organization whose clients include many of this country's largest pension plans and endowment funds. At Callan, Gordon specialized in advising clients about privately placed investments, including Venture Capital funds. Had he realized how spectacularly successful Venture Capital investing would eventually become, he may have chosen to continue wearing a suit to work.

Fortunately, having fun on the job was a priority for Gordon and led to his decision to work with Marin Mountain Bikes, a manufacturer of high-end mountain bikes. Upon joining Marin, Gordon was immediately exiled to Taipei, Taiwan. Although much of his time was spent monitoring quality control at bicycle factories and improving upon the service given to Marin's international customers, he also found time to take Chinese lessons and play ultimate frisbee with other expatriates.

Armed with the ability to count to ten in Mandarin, he returned to the U.S. to set up and manage Marin Mountain Bike's domestic distribution business. As the Distribution Manager at Marin he implemented an order management system and managed a third-party warehouse that fulfilled orders for a network of over 300 bicycle retailers throughout the U.S.

In March of 1998 Gordon joined greentree.com, an online store offering vitamins, minerals, supplements and herbal remedies. As the Director of Fulfillment and employee number six; he had the opportunity to develop greentree's fulfillment systems from the ground up. After several system upgrades he eventually designed and led the implementation of a commerce system built around Oracle's ERP applications software. The system was fully integrated with suppliers and commerce partners to allow for seamless transaction processing from online order placement through order fulfillment. The system went live at the same time greentree.com transformed into more.com, an online drugstore selling health-related products and prescription medications. more.com immediately became a leading resource for health products online and its new commerce system successfully handled the tremendous increase in transaction volume it experienced soon after launch.

After two years of pioneering work in ecommerce fulfillment systems at more.com, Gordon joined vivid to pursue an opportunity to apply what he learned to other online ventures. A passionate advocate of process improvement, Gordon helps vivid's clients realize their ecommerce strategies by analyzing their business processes. Working closely with the client as well as vivid's engineers and information designers, his goal is to help create websites that work beautifully both online and under-the-hood.

Gordon's favorite part of his job is his title, which never fails to elicit a lively response from those outside of the distribution and logistics industry. When not mapping process flows, Gordon can be found riding his mountain bike, snowboarding, telemark skiing, or thinking about learning a new song on his guitar while playing one he already knows.
