Fern's background is in fine arts with an emphasis on painting. She traded in her paintbrush for the collaborative experience of creating multimedia theater while a graduate student at San Francisco State University (Interdisciplinary Arts Department). She toured the US with her group, the Eva Sisters, and gained notoriety while doing the coast to coast gallery circuit including a show at the SF Museum of Modern Art (written up in "A Decade of California Performance Art").

She began her career in "interactive" media as a senior graphic designer at Bay Area Teleguide (think back to those funny kiosks full of information for tourists and residents that were popping up throughout the Bay Area...).

Fern went on to become the art director at the SoftAd Group where she led the creative teams in designing electronic ad campaigns for Fortune 500 companies. She turned her focus to producing award-winning children's software at Theatrix Interactive, including Hollywood High and Hollywood which won the Codie Award for Best Creativity Tool in 1996.

Fern spent two years at Macromedia as an Executive Producer and Manager of Multimedia and Web Services before joining vivid studios as the Manager of the Experience Group. Fern spends her time building an exceptional design department and marvelling over their creations.
